Whenever I’m visiting a new place, I check to see if there’s a unique McDonald’s nearby.

Some stores are worth visiting because they boast unique architecture, or because the brand has connected with the culture of the destination in a particular way. Certain destinations even have special menu items not available anywhere else! Like the McKroket in the Netherlands, or Taro Pies across Asia and Polynesia.

At other times, it’s a place to seek relief from jetlag or overspending. Having cheap eats in a place with WiFi and A/C can be a godsend when you’re a tired American traveling abroad!

If you can relate, then welcome to Nugget Nomad.

I’m LOVIN’ IT

The original Nugget Nomad.

This blog started officially in November of 2025, but the idea came on a trip to the U.K.

I was at a conference with other travel advisors and content creators, and we were all hitting a collective wall. It was that point in the trip where we just couldn’t do another sit-down restaurant where we’d need to dress up.

Nobody wanted to be the first to recommend McDonald’s. But once someone did? The mood was instantly lighter. We all laughed, relaxed, and settled into a place that felt familiar, while being unique to its host city.

If you’re craving levity and light-hearted fun with fellow travelers, this is the community you’ve been looking for.
